General Transp Tech I/II/III

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a General Transportation Tech I, II, or III to join their reputed company Maintenance team. The role involves performing transportation operations and maintenance tasks, including roadway maintenance, operating equipment, and providing assistance during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products reputed company to these activities
  • Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic
  • Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices
  • Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites
  • Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations
  • Move/picks up litter and roadway debris
  • Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush
  • Operates light equipment such as a reputed company-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader reputed company, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI
  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills
  • Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and reputed company highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
  • Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project
  • Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Maintains construction project records and/or reputed company inspection records; processes reputed company paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the reputed company inspection Manual of Procedures
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites
  • Operates heavy equipment such as a reputed company-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck
  • Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products
  • Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and reputed company highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
  • Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for reputed company maintenance problems
  • Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at reputed company of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications
  • Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance reputed company, and total survey station
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites
  • Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and reputed company highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
  • Operates reputed company heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine
  • May serve as a work crew project reputed company ensuring work performed meets project specifications
  • Trains other employees
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Skills

  • Valid driver's license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle
  • Must have a Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License with an 'N' Endorsement or have obtained a CDL 'A' License, reputed company 180 calendar days from date of employment

  • Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or reputed company work experience.   • Some knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
  • Some knowledge of applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques
  • Some knowledge of materials used in highway/reputed company construction and maintenance
  • Some knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Some knowledge of maintenance concepts, methods, policies, and requirements
  • Some knowledge of applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes
  • Some reputed company in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Some reputed company in using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
  • Some reputed company in using of light and heavy highway equipment
