Junior Platform Engineer (DevOps) Location: Remote Contract Duration: 6 months (with potential extension or conversion) Sponsorship: Not available Role Overview We are seeking a hands-on Junior Platform Engineer (DevOps) to support a modern, cloud-native platform environment for a large, mission-driven digital education organization serving learners nationwide. This role is ideal for an early-career DevOps or platform engineer looking to grow while working on real-world systems at enterprise scale. You will collaborate closely with infrastructure and application teams to improve deployment workflows, automation, observability, and overall operational reliability. The environment emphasizes AWS, containerized workloads, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD best practices supporting a highly available platform. This is a fully remote, six-month contract offering strong exposure to enterprise-scale cloud operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment reliability
  • Automate operational tasks to reduce manual toil using scripts, runbooks, and self-service tooling
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring cloud and containerized environments (AWS and Kubernetes/EKS)
  • Partner with engineers to troubleshoot production issues and improve observability
  • Contribute to Infrastructure as Code, platform documentation, and engineering standards

Required Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE-adjacent roles
  • Experience working with AWS services such as EC2, IAM, networking fundamentals, and ECS or EKS
  • Working knowledge of containers and Kubernetes concepts (hands-on experience preferred)
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred, CloudFormation acceptable)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab, or similar platforms
  • Basic scripting and automation experience
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in distributed systems with clear communication and follow-through

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Amazon EKS
  • Exposure to service mesh technologies such as Istio
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to accelerate troubleshooting, scripting, runbooks, or pipeline improvements
