Head of Regulatory Affairs – Nuclear Energy – Remote

A cutting-edge advanced nuclear technology organization is seeking a Head of Regulatory Affairs to lead regulatory strategy, policy engagement, and licensing execution. This individual will play a critical role in securing regulatory approvals, shaping policy, and enabling deployment of innovative nuclear systems within the United States. This position holds full accountability for regulatory affairs, including licensing, compliance, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy, with primary interface responsibility with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other federal and state agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive regulatory strategy supporting licensing of advanced nuclear technologies, including reprocessing and applications
  • Lead all engagement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, including pre-application activities, topical reports, licensing submissions, and regulatory meetings
  • Drive alignment between regulatory strategy and business objectives, ensuring timely achievement of permitting, siting, and licensing milestones
  • Provide expert interpretation of nuclear regulatory frameworks (including 10 CFR), translating requirements into technical, operational, and programmatic actions
  • Oversee development and submission of licensing documentation, ensuring quality, completeness, and regulatory alignment
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Defense, national laboratories, and industry partners
  • Represent the organization in regulatory hearings, public forums, and industry engagements to support technology adoption and policy advancement
  • Establish and manage regulatory risk mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety, security, and environmental requirements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and commercial teams to embed regulatory and radiation safety requirements into technology development and deployment
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing regulatory affairs team, fostering a strong culture of safety, compliance, and innovation
  • Serve as or oversee Radiation Safety Officer responsibilities across relevant facilities and programs Experience Required
  • 15+ years of experience in nuclear regulatory affairs, licensing, or nuclear safety within complex or emerging nuclear technologies
  • Proven track record of leading licensing efforts with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
  • Deep experience engaging with federal agencies such as U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Defense
  • Experience developing regulatory strategy for advanced nuclear systems strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and navigating complex regulatory environments Qualifications
  • B.S. or higher in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline
  • Strong expertise in nuclear regulatory frameworks, including 10 CFR Parts 30, 40, 50, 70, and 110
  • Deep understanding of nuclear safety principles, radiation protection, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience supporting advanced nuclear technologies
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic decision-making capabilities
