About arenaflex – A Global Retail Powerhouse

arenaflex is one of the world’s largest retail organizations, operating a sophisticated network of stores and e‑commerce platforms across more than a dozen countries. Recognized for its employee‑first culture and consistently ranked among the top workplaces in the United States, arenaflex combines a strong heritage of value‑driven retailing with a relentless focus on data‑enabled innovation. Whether you’re a seasoned data professional or an emerging talent, arenaflex offers a collaborative environment where data is treated as a strategic asset that fuels better products, services, and customer experiences.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s fast‑moving retail landscape, the ability to turn massive volumes of transactional, product, and supplier data into actionable insight is a competitive differentiator. As a Remote Data Architect for arenaflex, you will be the technical steward of the company’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), shaping the data models that power analytics, AI, and operational systems across the organization. Your work will directly influence how business units—from merchandising to supply chain—make data‑driven decisions that affect millions of customers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Architecture Leadership: Serve as the senior authority on data domains such as pricing, inventory, promotions, and supplier information, defining canonical data sets and ensuring they are reusable across the enterprise.
  • Model Development & Maintenance: Design, build, and evolve logical and physical data models that support both OLTP (transactional) and OLAP (analytical) workloads, collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
  • Data Governance & Quality: Partner with Data Stewards and the Data Governance Council to capture business metadata, enforce data quality standards, and maintain data lineage documentation (source‑to‑target mappings).
  • Integration Architecture: Architect and oversee end‑to‑end data integration pipelines, including ETL/ELT processes, data replication, and streaming solutions that feed the EDW from operational systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Assess existing data designs, identify bottlenecks, and implement enhancements to improve data throughput, latency, and scalability.
  • Technology Roadmap: Stay current with emerging data technologies (e.g., NoSQL, graph databases, cloud data platforms) and recommend strategic upgrades that align with arenaflex’s long‑term vision.
  • Collaboration & Documentation: Produce clear architectural diagrams, data dictionaries, and technical specifications that translate business requirements into robust data solutions.
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Coach junior data architects and engineers on best practices, emerging patterns, and industry standards, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • On‑Call Support: Participate in a rotational on‑call schedule to address critical data incidents, ensuring high availability and reliability of the data platform.

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate‑level education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, including relational, dimensional, and NoSQL data structures.
  • Hands‑on experience with data modeling tools such as ERwin, PowerDesigner, or equivalent.
  • Proven track record designing and delivering large‑scale data integration and ETL solutions.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into logical and physical data models.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Willingness to support occasional off‑hours work and participate in a rotating on‑call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience working with massive, complex data sets in a retail or e‑commerce environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure SQL DB, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Databricks, or similar services.
  • Demonstrated ability to design OLTP data models that underpin high‑transaction business applications.
  • Familiarity with data standardization processes and data‑as‑a‑service (DaaS) frameworks.
  • Experience leading agile development teams and driving data‑centric initiatives through Scrum or Kanban methodologies.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset and a passion for the retail industry.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to cross‑functional projects.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: SQL, data warehousing, data lake architecture, ETL/ELT tools, cloud services, and data modeling standards.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect business processes, identify data pain points, and propose scalable solutions.
  • Leadership & Influence: Guide multidisciplinary teams, champion data governance, and drive consensus across stakeholders.
  • Communication: Translate technical concepts into clear business language; produce concise documentation and presentations.
  • Continuous Learning: Proactive in staying abreast of industry trends, certifications, and emerging best practices.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

arenaflex invests heavily in employee development. As a Data Architect, you will have access to:

  • Mentorship from senior data leaders and participation in a global community of data professionals.
  • Funding for industry certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer, TOGAF, DAMA‑DMBoK).
  • Opportunities to lead high‑visibility projects that shape the future data strategy of a Fortune‑500 retailer.
  • Cross‑functional rotations that broaden exposure to merchandising, supply chain, finance, and customer experience domains.
  • Regular internal tech talks, hackathons, and innovation labs focused on AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.

  • Robust health, safety, and wellness programs, including mental‑health resources.
  • Transparent communication from senior leadership, reinforcing arenaflex’s commitment to ethical conduct and corporate responsibility.
