CONSULTANT NAME: Alexis Masciarelli JOB TITLE: Communications Consultant TYPE OF CONTRACT: WAE contract – 65 working days UNIT/DIVISION: COM DUTY STATION (City, Country): Remote DURATION: EOD: 01 July 2026 – NTE: 30 September 20-26 BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: Under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Global Media, the Consultant will provide structured communications surge capacity to Country Offices and Regional Bureaux during emergencies and other critical operational gaps, to ensure continuity of essential communications functions during rapid scale-ups and staffing constraints. The role focuses on short-term surge support, including media relations and spokesperson support; drafting and editing news releases and other materials; gathering multimedia content at field level; and providing guidance and messaging materials. ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Media Relations

  • Monitor and analyse traditional and social media to inform the development and

evaluation of communication activities and strategies.

  • Build relationships with international and local media covering issues of relevance

to WFP Regional Offices and Country Offices.

  • Draft and translate news releases; write feature articles, briefing notes and

backgrounders; arrange interviews; and organise media trips and news conferences.

  • Respond to emergencies, when requested, by deploying rapidly to a country or

region and preparing information for public release on WFP operations and activities, as well as all required materials for internal and external use, particularly multimedia content. Content Production Support

  • Support offices in producing, or outsourcing the production of, compelling content,

including photos, videos and audio, for use across a range of integrated online platforms and media to support positioning, brand building, and demonstrate the impact of WFP’s work for fundraising activities.

  • Edit and translate content for publication on WFP digital platforms.

Strategic Communications

  • Provide advice to senior management to ensure consistent, high-quality

communications that deliver the desired impact.

  • Build effective internal and external collaborations and partnerships to align activities

and ensure a coherent approach to communications.

  • Perform other related functions as required.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Communication products developed and/or quality-assured for assigned surge

operations, as requested by the supervisor.

  • Rapid communications support delivered to emergency or gap-response contexts,

including public information, media and visibility materials.

  • Media engagement and spokesperson support provided for assigned offices, including

preparation of key messages, briefing materials and press products.

  • Multimedia and digital content packages produced, coordinated or edited for

publication across WFP platforms.

  • Strategic communications guidance provided to ensure coherence, quality and

alignment with WFP corporate messaging.

  • End-of-assignment report submitted summarising outputs delivered and support

provided. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international development, entrepreneurship, business, or another relevant field, or relevant work experience in emergency operations. Experience: At least 8 years of progressively responsible, relevant experience, preferably in communications. Knowledge & Skills:

  • Collaborative and able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels

and across different cultures, while acting with credibility and diplomacy.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to

plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles, manage competing priorities successfully, and work to tight deadlines.

  • Strong drive, self-motivated, and able to work with a high degree of

autonomy.

  • Willingness and ability to travel in difficult terrain with minimal

amenities.

  • Strong commitment and motivation to contribute to the aims of the

United Nations World Food Programme. Languages: Fluency in English is required. Fluency (level C) in French is mandatory. An excellent knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
