Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a seasoned Lead Data Engineer to spearhead the design, development, and operation of our enterprise‑wide data platform. You will be embedded within the Orchestration team, responsible for workflow scheduling, data ingestion pipelines, and the underlying infrastructure that powers analytics, operations, and machine‑learning workloads for arenaflex’s flagship streaming services.

This role offers a unique blend of hands‑on engineering, architectural leadership, and mentorship. You will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and senior engineers to deliver resilient, secure, and highly available data solutions that enable real‑time personalization and insights at massive scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect & Build Scalable Data Pipelines: Lead a cross‑functional team to design and implement large‑scale data processing environments supporting both real‑time and batch workloads.
  • Data Platform Governance: Develop tools and services for data discovery, lineage, resiliency, and privacy compliance across the entire data platform.
  • CI/CD & Infrastructure Automation: Create and evolve CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure components, ensuring high availability, rapid deployment, and operational agility.
  • Engineering Excellence: Champion software engineering best practices, code quality standards, and robust testing frameworks within the team and across arenaflex.
  • Mentorship & Evangelism: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and advocacy for the data platform, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Partner with product owners, data analysts, and security teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement optimizations to meet stringent latency and throughput targets.
  • Innovation & Experimentation: Explore emerging technologies (e.g., serverless, streaming analytics, AI‑enhanced pipelines) and pilot new approaches that could become future standards.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in data engineering or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Python and Scala, with a strong emphasis on clean, maintainable code.
  • Deep hands‑on experience deploying and operating cloud‑native data solutions, preferably on AWS, using infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform.
  • Demonstrated ability to dive deep into complex technical problems, understand system‑wide impacts, and drive effective solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Passion for craftsmanship—building software that prioritizes the end‑user experience and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing real‑time data infrastructure such as Kinesis or Kafka.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Airflow.
  • Hands‑on experience with data lake architectures, columnar storage formats, and query engines (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, Presto).
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and implementation of compliance controls.
  • Track record of leading technical teams, driving adoption of best practices, and influencing product roadmaps.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Ability to design logical and physical data models that support analytics and operational workloads.
  • Distributed Systems: Understanding of fault‑tolerant, horizontally scalable architectures.
  • Cloud Services: Expertise in AWS services (S3, EMR, Glue, Lambda, etc.) and cost‑optimization strategies.
  • Automation & DevOps: Proficiency with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical mindset with a data‑driven approach to troubleshooting.
  • Leadership: Ability to inspire, coach, and develop junior engineers while fostering an inclusive team environment.
