What You’ll Do – Core Responsibilities

As a Psychiatric Clinical Pharmacist II at arenaflex, you will serve as a subject matter expert in all aspects of psychotropic medication management. Your day-to-day work will directly shape the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of behavioral health pharmacy services delivered to our clients and their members. Core responsibilities include:

  • Clinical Oversight of Psychotropic Medications: Provide expert clinical review, evaluation, and oversight of all psychotropic medication-related services, ensuring alignment with current evidence-based guidelines, clinical best practices, and regulatory standards.
  • Prescriber Consultation & Clinical Recommendations: Serve as a trusted clinical resource for prescribers across multiple disciplines, providing real-time consultations, evidence-based recommendations, and therapeutic alternatives when needed to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Formulary & Benefits Design Support: Apply your in-depth knowledge of clinical pharmacy, drug information, and pharmacoeconomics to support the design, refinement, and ongoing management of behavioral health formularies and pharmacy benefit structures.
  • Prior Authorization (PA) Review: Conduct thorough, clinically rigorous reviews of prior authorization requests for psychotropic medications, balancing clinical necessity, safety, and cost considerations while maintaining a member-first approach.
  • Prospective and Retrospective Drug Utilization Review (PRO-DUR / Retro-DUR): Lead and contribute to prospective and retrospective drug utilization review initiatives, identifying patterns of suboptimal therapy, potential drug interactions, adherence concerns, and opportunities for clinical intervention.
  • Contract Dedication & Operational Excellence: Maintain 100% dedication to the assigned contract, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality clinical services and adherence to all contractual obligations and service-level expectations.
  • On-Site Facility Engagement: Be located at the contractor’s local facility as needed for collaboration, training, and team integration, while benefiting from the flexibility of remote work for day-to-day clinical responsibilities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams including medical directors, case managers, data analysts, and account managers to deliver integrated behavioral health solutions that improve clinical and economic outcomes.
  • Continuous Learning & Thought Leadership: Stay current on emerging psychiatric pharmacotherapy research, FDA approvals, safety alerts, and clinical guidelines, and contribute to the development of internal clinical protocols, position statements, and educational materials.

What You’ll Bring – Required Qualifications & Experience

arenaflex is seeking a highly qualified and clinically seasoned professional. The ideal candidate will bring the following credentials and experience:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current, Active Pharmacist License in the state of Maryland, or the ability to obtain Maryland licensure within six (6) months of system implementation.
  • Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist (BCPP) Credential – required.
  • Minimum of Three (3) Years of Progressive Experience supporting formulary management, prior authorization, pharmacy benefits design, and clinical drug information services.
  • Demonstrated Experience in Prospective (PRO) and Retrospective (Retro-DUR) Drug Utilization Review programs.
  • Deep Knowledge of Clinical Pharmacy Principles and drug product information sufficient to support plan benefit design and clinical decision-making.
  • Specialized Training in Psychotropic Medications, including but not limited to antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, anxiolytics, stimulants, and emerging agents.
  • Strong Clinical Judgment and Communication Skills, with the ability to translate complex clinical information into actionable recommendations for prescribers and stakeholders.
  • Self-Motivation and Discipline to thrive in a fully remote work environment while maintaining high productivity and engagement with the broader team.

Preferred Attributes for Success

While not required, the following qualifications will help you stand out as a candidate:

  • Experience working with health plans, PBMs, or managed care organizations in a clinical pharmacy capacity.
  • Familiarity with Medicare Part D, Medicaid, and commercial formulary structures.
  • Experience developing or contributing to clinical monographs, prior authorization criteria, and utilization management policies.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting behavioral health pharmacy practice.
  • Prior involvement in quality improvement initiatives, population health programs, or value-based care models.
  • Experience presenting to or educating prescribers, pharmacists, or other healthcare professionals on psychiatric pharmacotherapy.
