Why This Role Matters

The Senior Data Engineer – Data Ventures position is a cornerstone of arenaflex’s Data Adventures team. Your work will directly influence strategic decisions, cost‑saving initiatives, and the overall customer experience across every product category and geography.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Architecture: Design, develop, and optimize robust, scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load terabytes of data from diverse sources into our data lake and warehouse.
  • Data Modeling & Integration: Create logical and physical data models, define schema standards, and ensure seamless integration with downstream analytics and reporting tools.
  • Collaboration with Data Scientists & Analysts: Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and deliver reliable data products.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and governance frameworks to guarantee data accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Conduct root‑cause analysis of pipeline bottlenecks, apply best practices for performance tuning, and continuously improve system efficiency.
  • Code Development & Testing: Write clean, maintainable code in Scala, Python, or Java; develop automated unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests; and maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • Cloud & Distributed Systems Management: Deploy and manage workloads on GCP (or equivalent cloud platforms), leveraging services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Kubernetes.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Guide junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in data engineering across the organization.
  • Strategic Business Insight: Translate business problems into data solutions, develop business cases, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Continuous Learning & Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, propose innovative approaches, and pilot new tools that can enhance arenaflex’s data capabilities.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of building large‑scale data pipelines.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language: Scala, Python, or Java.
  • Deep understanding of distributed computing platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and associated services for data processing and storage.
  • Expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing concepts, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement data models, data lakes, and data warehouses.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the ability to dissect complex business challenges and propose data‑centric solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of articulating technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with GCP services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Composer.
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools like Airflow, Automic, or similar workflow managers.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data cataloging, and metadata management.
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and feature engineering workflows.
  • Understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for scalable deployments.
  • Previous work in a retail or e‑commerce environment, especially at a large enterprise scale.
  • Certification in cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer).
