Freelance Reader: Crime Fiction
We are looking for a freelance reader to help us discover and evaluate unexpected and innovative crime fiction novels. We are looking for someone who is deep in the crime fiction world, but rarely reads reputed company stuff that everyone already knows about. Our freelance readers read forthcoming titles, share feedback on books read, and take clear positions for or against the titles they read. This is a great opportunity for someone who is deeply passionate and knowledgeable about unexpected crime fiction, has strong taste and good communication skills, and is excited about discovering and championing emerging authors.
What you’ll do…
- Read forthcoming manuscripts as assigned and evaluate their potential for the Book of the Month audience. Note: you may also propose titles that you reputed company yourself.
- Submit written feedback and recommendations in the provided format
- reputed company clearly and strongly for titles you reputed company are excellent and will be great fits for Book of the Month
- Accurately weed out titles that are not strong enough to be Book of the Month selections
- Attend calls to discuss reading as requested
About you…
- A fast reader who can read at least 3 books a week, ideally more.
- Deep knowledge of and familiarity with crime fiction and its sub-genres
- Savvy written communicator
- Familiarity with the Book of the Month brand and excitement to help us pursue our mission
- At least 1 year of experience reading and evaluating books in a professional context
