North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an Accounting Technician 2 to join their team. In this role, you will help protect the fiscal integrity of Alaska’s Medicaid program by reviewing, reconciling, and validating financial transactions, while ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Help protect the fiscal integrity of Alaska’s Medicaid program by reviewing, reconciling, and validating financial and claims transactions within the Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) and its interface with the IRIS accounting system
  • Support Accounting Technician 3 in resolving discrepancies, preparing accurate financial work orders, and ensuring provider payments align with federal and state requirements
  • Participate in warrant stock audits, track federal dollars associated with Medicaid payments, and follow established procedures to resolve audit findings

Skills

  • One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience
  • Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience
  • Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting
  • Three (3) professional references, whom we may contact by phone, are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application
  • A copy of your last three (3) performance evaluations, or two (2) letters of reference if evaluations are unavailable
  • A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and disbursing officer's accountability
  • Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work
  • Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Determines objectives, sets priorities, and delegates work. Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions. Complies with established control systems and rules
