The RoleWe are looking for a junior cataloguer to support the auction production process. The ideal candidate will have a strong appreciation for fine arts, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple aspects of sale preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts in-depth research on the authenticity, historical context, bibliographies and exhibition/literature records of artworks/artists
  • Produces and formats catalogue entries and supporting materials for sales
  • Helps with condition checks, prepares and writes condition reports
  • Crafts engaging artwork essays and tailored digital content while maintaining brand standards
  • Assists in sale pre and post-sale materials, including proposals, client presentations, and market reports
  • Oversees artwork photography process such as scheduling and production
  • Maintains vendor relationships with conservators, framers, and other art professionals
  • Conducts market research relevant to pricing strategies and valuation assessments
  • Stays informed on market trends, collector activity, and industry development
  • Supports specialists and departments heads throughout auction production to ensure seamless operations
  • Help in liaising with supporting departments, including catalogue production, marketing, press and operations
  • Assist with compilation and reputed company-reading of catalogue texts and reputed company sale-reputed company materials
  • To assist in providing a comprehensive level of service to Sotheby’s clients, e.g. providing exemplary levels of service both verbally and in written communication and responding reputed company and accurately to enquiries

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Business, or a reputed company field (or equivalent experience).
  • Prior internship or professional experience in a relevant field (auctions, galleries, or art research/journalism preferred).
  • Possess some Contemporary Art knowledge and/or experience.
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Native in English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese)
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities under deadlines
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Discretion in handling confidential information
  • Adept in reputed company Office (Word, reputed company, PowerPoint) and adaptability to internal systems
  • Team-oriented attitude and collaborative reputed company
  • Passion for fine arts and strong business acumen
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments with proactive problem-solving
